Bed Bug Prevention in Hotels

Ecolab Pest expert inspecting hotel bed for bed bugs.

Since the resurgence of bed bugs, more and more hospitality managers are looking for bed bug pest control. They are also recognizing the benefits of partnering with a pest control company that offers proactive bed bug treatment options.

Although it is impossible to stop bed bugs from entering a hotel, we can offer solutions to help reduce your risk and total cost. On average, hotels that have been on a proactive bed bug program for at least one year have a 21%** reduction in bed bug infestations.

Being Proactive About Hotel Bed Bugs

Proactive bed bug programs should include a targeted inspection that looks at the areas most at risk of harboring bed bugs. This includes the headboard, back of nightstands, carpet edge behind the bed and upper corners of the box spring, the bed frame and the mattress.

Key Components of a Proactive Bed Bug Program:

  1. Inspection
Bed bugs hitchhike on travelers’ luggage or a person’s clothing and can be brought into any hotel—including high-end resorts. Inspect rooms daily by examining mattress cover, seams and edges plus box springs for signs of adult bed bugs, nymphs and eggs. Inspect around headboards, behind picture frames and other areas of the room for evidence of bed bugs.
  2. Treatment
If you suspect bed bug activity, leave any items used to clean the room in place, close and lock the room and call your pest control provider for treatment of the room.
Grant your pest control provider access to the infested and adjacent rooms, and prepare each room for service to ensure quick and efficient identification and elimination of the infestation.
  3. Tracking
Once treatment is complete, ask your pest control provider about a bed bug tracking system that helps ensure that each room has been inspected.
