Tower Salting
Deposition of inorganic salts in the main fractionator towers of Fluid Catalytic Cracking units (FCCs), Cokers and Crude Units (CDU) is a common cause of operating problems and lost profits. Composed primarily of ammonium chloride, these salt deposits tend to form and deposit in the mid-to-upper sections of the main column pump around exchangers. If not removed, salts can accumulate and cause a number of significant problems that affect optimal tower operation and the rest of the process unit.
